A Comparison of Two Different Slowpitch Softball Bats

We’ve said this before and we’ll say it again: no two bats are created equal. It’s apparent enough through the marketing efforts and the design of so many of the slowpitch softball bats on our website that they look different enough, but there are many other differences engineering into them than what meets the eye.

That is to say, the differences between any given two bats will be far from cosmetic. There will be cosmetic differences, but there will be different, unique technology built into the bats you’re looking at. These features will engender different performance into any bat you see, and to top that off, all players have their own unique needs in performance.

To illustrate some of the differences that commonly arise between different models of softball bats, we’re going to take a close look at two of the models that you will see on our website. These two are the 2020 DeMarini Steel Single Wall Slowpitch Softball Bat and the 2020 DeMarini RD Balanced Senior Slowpitch Softball Bat. As you’re about to see, these bats are built to cater to the tastes of players with very different strengths and preferences.

2020 DeMarini Steel Single Wall Slowpitch Softball Bat

The 2020 DeMarini Steel Single Wall Slowpitch Softball Bat is not only unique because it is made from steel; this is a bat that heavy-hitting players are going to love. We’ll get into that in a bit, however.

Unlike most bats, even alloy bats, this softball bat is made from carburized drawn seamless steel and has single wall construction through the barrel. That makes this bat compatible for play in leagues where double-wall construction is forbidden.

Something else about this bat that is interesting is the fact that it is made from steel instead of aluminum. Many alloy bats are made from aluminum because they are tough and can be made with a compressible double wall. Aluminum may be tough, but steel is tougher, and this is a nearly invincible bat. It doesn’t end with toughness, though.

Steel is also heavier than aluminum, which means that this bat can be wielded with an insane amount of power. It brings one of the heaviest end loads in our collection to the table, with a weight drop of -4. It is a heavy, hard-hitting bat, and though it might not be as responsive as some lighter composite models, hard hitters can really drive home with this thing.

However, not all players prefer an end-load, and a team requires all of its components to function fluidly. Whereas a heavy hitter might allow all of the bases to get home, those players would need to get on base anyway. That’s where a bat like the following comes into the picture.

2020 DeMarini RD Balanced Senior Slowpitch Softball Bat

Whereas the steel bat above would appeal to players who desired a heavy-hitting bat, this one from our collection is significantly better balanced and therefore much more responsive. It also feels a lot lighter over the plate. Despite the fact that these two bats weigh the same, you can feel the difference when handling them.

That is due to the balancing of the bat, but this one is made from Continuous Fiber Barrel Wall Technology that makes the bat tougher than ever before. It also provides for a great amount of feedback to get through the handle and into the hands of the player. You can feel just where this bat is going to be, and where it will make contact, every time. And, just in case you can’t, the bat will tell you where you did.

Light and remarkably tough, this is a bat that precision hitters will just use up and want more of. It will take a little bit of time to break in and like all bats requires appreciable practice to attain proficiency, but if you are a player that needs a light swinging, heavily responsive bat, this may serve you well.

Contrast this to the bat above that will afford a lot of power but not the same degree of feedback through the swing and into contact. Weight lifters will love the bat about, and surgeons will prefer this one.

These two slowpitch softball bats are intended only to illustrate some of the differences that exist between slowpitch bats that cannot be seen without digging a little bit. There are many other bats on our website, some of which are end loaded and others of which are balanced, and to find the bat that is right for you you’ll want to check our collection.

In the event that you can’t key in on the bat that’s right for you from among our slowpitch bats, you can always lean on the experience of our staff. Get in touch with us at 1-888-540-BATS and we would be more than happy to walk you through some of the fine points of the bats in our collection. Whether you want a Louisville Slugger or a Miken Freak, a balanced or a loaded USSSA slow pitch softball bat, there’s something here for you!
